About Energy Sources for Ionospheric Alfven Resonator

Energy input of different sources for excitation of mid-latitude IAR are compared theoretically and contribution of each of them to observed IAR amplitudes is estimated. It is found that thunderstorm generation, including World Thunderstorm centers, nearby and conjugated discharges give not enough energy to explain observed amplitudes of IAR resonances. Contribution to IAR amplitudes of kinetic processes at IAR altitudes is discussed. Data of continuous observations of Ionospheric Alfven resonator (IAR) structures at complex Geophysical observatory Karimshino (Kamchatka, Russia), global and local thunderstorm activity, geomagnetic activity, particle and plasma parameters in the upper ionosphere are analyzed to answer the question about the energy source for IAR excitation. It is found that IAR, even at mid-latitudes, is influenced by space weather parameters, controlled initially by solar activity.
